About the Journal

Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems (CIMS) is a Chinese Monthly whose ISSN is 1006-5911.

Established in 1995, CIMS was sponsored by CIMS subject, the National High-Tech. R&D Program, and Institute No. 210, CNGC, it is the only publishing state science journal of CIMS subject. Its tenet is to communicate research, development and application of CIMS at home and abroad so that to facilitate the development of Chinese CIMS. It includes review, paper, expert forum, enterprise practice, and dynamic information. It covers following aspects of CIMS: policies, focus, trend, research fruit, R & D trends, extending and application, product development, and academic activities etc.

CIMS is big 16 format which is published both here and abroad.

The National High-Tech. R & D Program for CIMS decided to establish Journal of CIMS in Oct. 1994. After discussion and research, the 1 st editorial board was set up which included members of the National High-Tech. R & D Program for CIMS experts panel, members of Commission of Sci. Tech. & Industry for National Defense advanced manufacturing experts panel of the day, and some bureau leaders in charge of advanced manufacturing of state ministries and commissions. In May 1995, CIMS was established. The editorial board director was JIANG Xinsong who was an academician of Chinese Engineering Academy, the chief scientist in automatization area. And the chief editor was the director of CIMS program office. Vice premier of the day ZHOU Jiahua and SONG Jian had written inscription to congratulate the establishment of CIMS. Academician JIANG Xinsong had written the foreword. Initially CIMS was quarterly with 48 pages and editting department was founded in No. 210 institute.

In Jan. 26 1996, the 1 st editorial board meeting was held in Beijing. After the meeting the object of entering the database of Ei Compendex database was confirmed. In Nov. 1996 CIMS was indexed in EI from the 1 st issue of 1996. The number of indexed papers was 22 of that year which was the 53.6% of the total. In addition, CIMS had published series of literatures and acoustic image material for 10 anniversary of the National High-Tech. R & D Program.

In 1997, CIMS became bimonthly, the page number was increased to 56 pages, the all-year number of appeared papers was 59. A CIMS new technology symposia was held additionally.

In 1998, the 2 nd editorial board was established in which some experts were increased to be editorial board members. WU Cheng who is an academician of Chinese Engineering Academy, the chief scientist in automatization area was the director of editorial board. The director of CIMS subject office was chief editor. The influence factor reached 0.709 of that year which ranked 16 th in Chinese S & T Papers and Quotation database, and 1 st in computer journals. The number of indexed papers in Ei was 56 which was 81% of the total.

In 1999, CIMS was still bimonthly, but it was increased to 72 pages, the number of appeared papers was 83. The number of indexed papers by Ei was 58, accounted for 70% of whole. The influence factor was 0.726 which ranked 3 in the Chinese S & T Papers and Quotation database. Additionally, it had also held the National Advanced Manufacturing Tech. Development Strategy Symposia.

In 2000, CIMS was increased to 96 pages including 114 papers of that year. Of the same year, CIMS was indexed in Science Abstracts of UK, Abstracts Journal of Russia, Cambridge Scientific Abstracts of USA.

In 2001, CIMS became monthly which had 72 pages, and the papers of that year was 175. In Dec., it won the 2 nd -class National Defense S & T Information award conferred by Chinese National Defense S & T Information Academy.

In 2002, the 3 rd editorial board of CIMS was established. Sun Jiaguang who is an academician of Chinese Engineering Academy and the chief scientist in automatization field was director . The editorial board organization rule was re-constituted, and the members were reelected. After application of editting department, CIMS was indexed in Chinese Science Abastracts.

In 2003, the remote contributing system and internal contribution handling system were applied. Online contribution and query, copy edit, and telework were realized. In the same year, the networked manufacturing and mass customization conference and the digitalization design and manufacturing conference were undertaken.

In 2005, commended by experts, CIMS was indexed in Chinese Higher Education Science Abstracts. In Jan. 2005, it won the 3 rd one-hundred-key-journal of National Journal award conferred by General Administration of Press and Publication of the PRC.

Established from 1995, CIMS was more than 10 years old. Being an important carrier and communication platform of Chinese advanced manufacturing technology, CIMS reports the fore-fruit and development trends for advanced manufacturing S & T researchers all along. It has made a great contribution to Chinese advanced manufacturing R & D and application.

Being an authoritative journal of advanced manufacturing, CIMS can reflect the R & D and application of the National High-Tech. R & D Program for CIMS roundly and directly. Any important technology trend can be reported by CIMS. Papers in CIMS have high quality and great influence which made them be cited by a great deal of readers frequently. Anyway, CIMS has authority and status that can't be replaced by other journals in CIMS area.

In science, CIMS pays attention to forward looking, innovation, systematicness, integrity. And in application, it focus on instructiveness and practicability. Thereby, the integration of science research and engineering application was realized. Many papers are not only have theoretical research but also have validate in practice. Research fruits were used to guide practice, contrarily practice experience of engineering application can accelerate the development of CIMS theory. Application development researchers are used to refering CIMS when they are studying similar CIMS Engineering.

CIMS has more than 300 copy edit experts, they are doctoral tutors (account for 40%), professors or associate professors with doctor's degree, even some of them are academicians of Chinese Engineering Academy. Most of the authors are researchers and organizers with doctor's degree of high-level R & D departments in CIMS field. And the papers supported by foundation items account for more than 90%. The science content of papers reflect the newest research level, application fruits, and experience in CIMS.

Domestic teachers and students of universities and researchers of institute or enterprises who do research and application of advanced manufacturing are the main readers of CIMS.
